The cost of one year’s tuition at the MSG varies by location and number of students enrolled. The currently operating MSG has a tuition level of 1,700 USD. The target for MSG in Chiang Mai is less than 2,000 USD per student per year, but will depend on fixed costs such as facility rental and variable income such as size of enrollment. This cost includes books, lunches, and all other fees.
The MSG has been running since 2007 and we have never been accredited. In general, we think that accreditation is good, but the nature of the MSG does not lend itself to an easy accreditation process. We believe we can accomplish our task without accreditation. Therefore, those who need an accredited diploma need to find another schooling option.
The MSG offers course in the three main college preparatory subjects of Math, Science and English.
Math: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AP-Level Calculus*
Science: General Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AP-Level sciences.
English: See the FAQ regarding English.
We use the Jay Wile Apologia Series titled “Exploring Creation with . . ” for General Science through Physics. The content can be found here. After that we use various college level textbooks for the AP (Advance Placement) Sciences.
For science classes offered in the other locations as an online Hybrid we use the CK-12 textbooks for the sciences.
This varies significantly depending on the current teacher. The MSG English program is broken into three classes: 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. For example students in the second year of the 7-8 class are assessed at a higher level.
English includes reading, writing, vocabulary, poetry, speech and the writing of research papers.
The short answer is none. We do not have a Music, Art, or Sports program. The program is mostly academic. The High School is in class from 8 AM till 5 PM and there is little time for other activities. The Middle School runs from 8 AM till 3:30 PM. We encourage parents to involve their children in these activities during the three weeks at home.
Students with special needs are evaluated on a case by case basis. The currently operating MSG has had success with many children with mild to moderate special needs. However we provide no specially trained teachers or guaranteed plans. Every teacher will make accommodations as they are able.
Due to the special and intense nature of the MSG (one intense week a month) it can be harder for students with special needs than at a regular school.
